Construction pencils

Pencils are simply indispensable when it comes to marking tools on construction sites. Each different trade has its own set of requirements a pencil needs to satisfy. In order to meet all of these requirements, SOLA has a number of different versions and models in its range:

• ZP Carpenter's pencil
• STB Stone carver's pencil
• KB Copying pencil
• UB Universal pencil
• SB Marking pencil
• RBB Red/blue carpenter's pencil

All SOLA construction pencils are produced from high-quality limewood, making them highly sturdy and easy to sharpen with a knife or sharpener. 

Every SOLA pencil is finished three times with a high-quality varnish. In order to protect the environment, we only use varnish which does not contain toxic heavy metals.

The specific formulas of construction pencil materials, e.g. clay, graphite or wax, can heavily influence the hardness and adhesive properties of the marks. Construction pencils create marks on surfaces by physical abrasion of the lead.

The markings are weather-resistant on rough surfaces, such as wood, brick, concrete, stone, etc., but not permanent. After a while, the color pigments are washed-out and the marks will fade.

The construction pencil lead and the surface material/structure are key factors when it comes to how easy it is to remove marks. In general, it is easier to remove pencil marks from smooth surfaces.

Due to the number of available materials and surfaces, there are no universally applicable rules for removing marks.

For this reason, we recommend first testing the adhesion of a pencil on a sample section of the selected workpiece and seeing how easily marks come off before starting work.
