Establishing a connection between the app and the measuring tool


1. Activate Bluetooth on your smartphone

Make sure that Bluetooth is activated on your smartphone. The SOLA measuring device cannot be paired with the smartphone in the Bluetooth settings.

Activating Bluetooth on Android devices: Settings -> Connections -> Bluetooth

2. Activate location sharing on your smartphone (only applicable for android devices)

Location sharing is required on android devices to ensure a connection can be established smoothly between the app and the measuring device. Activate location sharing either in your smartphone settings or in the app directly by clicking ‘Always allow’.

3. Connecting multiple smartphones to the same measuring device at the same time

A connection between the smartphone and measuring device can only be established if the measuring device is not connected to another smartphone at the same time. Make sure that no one else who has previously connected to the measuring device has the app open or open in the background. The list of recently used apps should also be checked. Should the problem still occur, restart the measuring device.

1. How/where can I download the SOLA Measures app?

The SOLA Measures app is designed for Android and iOS devices. Open your app store (iOS: Apple App Store, Android: Google Play Store), search for SOLA Measures and install the app.

2. Generally, what should you keep in mind when using apps to ensure no errors occur?

Restart your smartphone regularly. Close background apps regularly from the list of recently used apps.

3. Why does the SOLA Measures app require Bluetooth to be active?

The exchange of data between the measuring device and the SOLA Measures app takes place via Bluetooth. If the Bluetooth functionality is deactivated, no connection between the measuring device and the app can be established.

4. How do I activate Bluetooth?

Activating Bluetooth on Android devices: Settings -> Connections -> Bluetooth
Activating Bluetooth on iOS devices: Settings -> General -> Bluetooth

The SOLA measuring device cannot be paired with the smartphone in the Bluetooth settings.

5. Why does the SOLA Measures app require location sharing (on Android devices)?

Google requires location sharing to establish a Bluetooth connection between the measuring device and the smartphone. If location sharing is deactivated, the app cannot be used on Android devices.

6. How do I activate location sharing (on Android devices)?

Location sharing on Android devices: Settings -> Connections -> Location

Location sharing must be activated in the smartphone settings. In addition, the question ‘Allow the SOLA Measures app to access your device’s location?’ must be confirmed by selecting ‘Allow’.

7. Why does the SOLA Measures app require access to my photos, media and files to save measuring results?

As soon as photos are taken or videos are recorded in the SOLA Measures app or the ‘Save data’ functionality is selected, all data will be stored in the internal memory of the smartphone. For smartphones with the iOS operating system, a folder called ‘SOLA Measures’ will automatically be created for this purpose. On smartphones with the Android operating system, all data will be saved in the ‘Downloads’ folder. SOLA has no access to other files on your smartphone.

8. Why does the SOLA Measures app require access to my photos and videos to save measuring results?

This access is required to ensure all camera functions for photos and videos are available. SOLA has no access to other files on your smartphone.

9. How can I retrospectively approve access to functions that I previously rejected by clicking ‘DENY’?

Permissions on Android devices: Settings -> Apps & notifications -> select the SOLA Measures app -> Permissions
Permissions on iOS devices: Settings -> Data protection -> select relevant functions

10. Can multiple people with the SOLA Measures app connect to the same measuring device at the same time?

No, only one person may connect to the measuring device at any one time. To enable another person to connect to this measuring device, the person that last used the app must either close the app in the list of recently used apps (in the background) or restart the measuring device.
