Long Tape Measures

MEASURE LONG DISTANCES WITH SOLA LONG TAPE MEASURES

Anyone looking to measure long distances or distances between 10 and 100 m should ideally use a long tape measure. Whether on a construction site or in industry, when cutting wood or measuring corners and edges: SOLA long tape measures are used by professionals in a number of ways – from measuring longer distances and taking measurements for kitchens, to determining the need for skirting boards, taking measurements in right spaces or rafters, and measuring across corners. In these situations, the advantages of flexible tape measures clearly outweigh those of rigid folding rules.

Measuring with the long tape measure couldn't be simpler. The tape measure is laid out or held along the distance to be measured and the length is read from the scale on the tape. To achieve the most accurate results, the tape measure needs to be stretched and laid out straight. The flexible material of the tape measure may prove detrimental for accurate measurements over very long, straight distances. In this case, the use of a digital laser distance meter is recommended, which scores points for its high precision over long distances.

HOW LONG ARE LONG TAPE MEASURES?

Long tape measures are mainly used for measuring longer distances between 10 and 100 m, often on constructions sites or in industry. Standard long tape lengths are 20 m, 30 m and 50 m.

SOLA long tape measures vary in length at 10 m, 20 m, 30 m, 50 m or 100 m, depending on the model.

When measuring shorter distances up to 10 m, a pocket tape measure should be used or, depending on the situation, a folding rule.

WHICH INFORMATION IS PRINTED ON THE LONG TAPE MEASURES?

The most important element of a long tape measure is the scale on the tape, which is divided into mm, cm, m or inches depending on the model and version. Other interesting information is noted at the start of the tape, enforced by EU Directive 2014/32/EU since February 26, 2014.

  1. Nominal length of the measuring device
  2. CE-marking
  3. Metrology marking and year of registration
  4. Number from specified body
  5. EC accuracy class
  6. Manufacturers name or registered identification mark

WHAT SCALE DOES A TAPE MEASURE INCLUDE?

Depending on the manufacturer and model, long measuring tapes are available with different scales. The most common scales are in mm or cm. At SOLA, all long measuring tapes have a mm scale.

HOW ACCURATE ARE LONG TAPE MEASURES?

The accuracy classes for measuring tapes (also called EC accuracy class) are specified in EU Directive 2014/32/EU. A distinction is made between the three EU Accuracy Classes, each of which has its own maximum measuring tolerance. For tapes with scales, the accuracy class is indicated in the front tape section. Depending on the model, SOLA long tape measures correspond to accuracy class I or II.

SOLA LONG TAPE MEASURE MATERIALS

STEEL TAPE WITH MATTE COATING

SOLA steel tapes are made of high-quality steel with a high carbon content, which ensures rigidity and durability. A colored and then transparent coating is applied to each steel tape, guaranteeing the best possible protection against corrosion. All models are rust-free and anti-reflective for the best possible reading.

STEEL TAPE WITH SPECIAL TUFCOTE COATING

With an additional layer of Tufcote coating, we combine the rigidity of a steel tape measure with the buckling resistance of fiberglass tape measure. Tufcote makes the tape extremely tough, break-proof, and resistant to chemicals and moisture. It is therefore perfect for practically any application.

FIBERGLASS TAPE MEASURE

SOLA long tape measures made of glass fiber reinforced plastic consist of a sufficient number of fibrils, which makes them hard to stretch. This not only makes the tape measures extremely tough and break-proof and prevents kinks, but also means that they are resistant to cold and moisture with a high chemical resistance. Another advantage is that they are electrically non-conductive and can therefore be used without any problems in the vicinity of electrical lines.

CAPSULE TAPE MEASURES: COMPACT AND ERGONOMIC

With a capsule tape measure, the tape is stored in an enclosed capsule made of impact-resistant ABS plastic, which offers the best possible protection against dirt and damage. SOLA capsule tape measures have been developed according to the latest ergonomic principles.

FRAME TAPE MEASURES: ROBUST AND DURABLE

The SOLA frame tape measure is built into an open frame.

  • Y-frame: High-quality, stable frame made of aluminum, and focused on longevity and robustness.
  • Simple frame: Stable aluminum frame; light and handy in every situation.

END HOOK WITH STEEL CLAW

All SOLA long steel tape measures are equipped with a multi-functional end hook. This allows the tape measure to be securely attached to pipes, nails, or screws. The universal steel claw on the end hook facilitates tensile measurements.

OPTIONAL INITIAL TAPE SECTION

  • Initial tape section A: Measurement begins 10 cm behind the ring/hook.
  • Initial tape section B: Measurement begins at the fitting.
  • Initial tape section C: Measurement begins on the outer side of the ring.

We use initial tape section B as standard for our SOLA measuring tapes. You can also order individual models with other initial tape sections.
