Pocket tape measures

MEASURE LONG DISTANCES WITH POCKET TAPE MEASURE. OR IS IT A SHORT TAPE? OR MEASURING TAPE?

A pocket tape measure is used to measure lengths ranging from a few millimeters to several meters. In order to measure, the tape is laid out or held along the distance to be measured. It is important that the tape measure has no slack. The scale printed on the tape can be used to easily read the measurement.

Pocket tape measures can be also referred to as short tape or short tape measure.

The term tape measure refers to the entire measuring device, consisting of the housing combined with the winding mechanism and tape with a measuring scale. Most short tape measures are made from painted steel.

POCKET MEASURING TAPE

HOW LONG ARE POCKET TAPE MEASURES?

Pocket tape measures or short measuring taoes are used to measure distances of up to 10 meters with millimeter accuracy. Tape measures 3 and 5 meters in length are often used to measure short distances. Short tape measures are used by DIYers and professionals alike. SOLA short tape measures vary in length at 2 m, 3 m, 5 m, 8 m or 10 m, depending on the model.

Long tape measures are used to measure longer distances ranging between 10 and 100 meters.

WHICH INFORMATION IS PRINTED ON THE POCKET TAPE MEASURES?

In addition to the scale on the tape measure, which is divided into mm, cm, m or inches depending on the model and version, the front part contains other important information.

As of February 26, 2014, Directive 2014/32/EU of the European Parliament applies in all member states of the European Union and the EEA. This directive contains the procedures, under which manufacturers of measuring tools are required to declare conformity to the applicable standards.

  1. Nominal length of the measuring device
  2. CE-marking
  3. Metrology marking and year of registration
  4. Number from specified body
  5. EC accuracy class
  6. Manufacturers name or registered identification mark

HOW PRECISE ARE POCKET TAPE MEASURES?

EU directive 2014/32/EU defines the accuracy class of tape measures. A distinction is made between the three EU Accuracy Classes, each of which has its own maximum measuring tolerance. SOLA short tape measures correspond to accuracy class I or II.

SOLA POCKET TAPE MEASURES

DURABILITY THANKS TO CARBON

Anyone who has ever used a pocket tape measure knows that these measuring devices often go through a lot. Particularly on construction sites, where damp and dirt are par for the course. It's no wonder that lower quality tapes often quickly start to show wear and tear. The issue: Damaged tapes lead to inaccurate measurement results.

At SOLA, our high-quality steel tape measures benefit from a high carbon content for extra rigidity and durability. All SOLE models are matte-coated and do not reflect or shine, making them easy to handle.

IMPRESSIVE STAND-OUT (EXTENSION STABILITY)

The concavity of SOLA pocket tape measures is optimally adjusted to obtain the highest possible inflexion point. We have taken care to ideally combine the high extension stability of the tape (stand-out) with adequate running smoothness.

RETURN AND SHOCK ABSORBERS

The integrated shock absorber system in the pocket tape measures ensures the tape comes to a gentle stop on return, stopping at the end hook. This extends the service life of the tape sevenfold. Thanks to the SOLA return system, the tape is unwound very smoothly, and is optimally wound back in. This saves place, allowing us to use compacter, more manageable casing.

RELIABLE TAPE STOP

We have paid special attention to the quality of the tape stop, or brake. The Big T, Tri-Matic and Popular models from SOLA are all equipped with a two part brake mechanism. This ensures that a blade can be locked with millimeter accuracy.

REINFORCED END HOOK

The sliding end hook also adds to the high accuracy of SOLA tape measures. It must set the zero point for a tension measurement (1) and move towards the zero point for a stop measurement (2). The sliding area corresponds to the strength of the end hook.

Because the end hook is one of the most heavily loaded parts of a tape measure, we have reinforced this area in several ways: Both on the reinforcement pad, and on the rivets of the end hook.

Plus, the COMPACT M and PROTECT M models have magnetic end hooks, which make it easier to place them on metallic surfaces.
